Principal Engineer (E-Commerce)

About the Role 

We are looking for an accomplished Principal Frontend Engineer to lead the technical vision, architecture, and execution of complex frontend initiatives across multiple product lines. This role is ideal for a deeply technical leader who operates at the intersection of architecture, product excellence, and engineering quality. You will shape long-term technical strategy, mentor engineering talent, and drive high-impact cross-team efforts. 

Key Responsibilities 

Technical Leadership & Architecture 

• Define the long-term frontend architecture, technology strategy, and engineering roadmap. 

• Lead design and development of scalable, performant, and secure client-side systems. 

• Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and patterns to guide strategic investments. 

Execution & Delivery 

• Lead complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives from concept to delivery. 

• Drive engineering excellence through design reviews, code quality standards, and robust testing practices. 

• Establish performance, reliability, accessibility, and security best practices across the frontend org. 

Cross-Functional Influence 

• Partner closely with Product, Design, Backend, Data, and Platform Engineering to build cohesive end-to-end solutions. 

• Provide technical direction and insights to engineering leadership and stakeholders. 

• Influence strategic decision-making at the organizational level, ensuring alignment with long-term vision. 

Mentorship & Culture Building 

• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, elevating technical depth across teams. 

• Foster a culture of innovation, quality, ownership, and continuous improvement. 

• Champion modern development practices, tooling, automation, and observability. 

Required Qualifications 

• 12+ years of experience in frontend or full-stack engineering roles. 

• Strong hands-on experience with observability, using Datadog and any kind of observability tools

• Expertise in modern frontend frameworks (React strongly preferred). 

• Deep knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, UI architecture, CSS systems, and client-side performance optimization. 

• Strong expertise in e‑commerce platforms and end‑to‑end e‑commerce operations

• Strong experience designing and scaling large, distributed, multi-tenant frontend architectures. 

• Proven experience leading complex technical efforts across multiple teams. 

• Advanced skills in system design, API design, debugging, and architecture. 

• Experience building and maintaining component libraries or design systems. 

• Excellent communication and leadership skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience with micro-frontend architecture. 

• Familiarity with cloud-native ecosystems (Azure, AWS, GCP). 

• Prior work in platform, infrastructure for frontend, or UI framework teams. 

• Contributions to open-source libraries, tooling, or standards. 

• Prior experience guiding Staff or Principal engineers.
