Senior Laboratory Assistant

The Lab Assistant supports daily laboratory operations by managing equipment, samples, and test setups in a fully onsite role at the Northbrook Lab. Responsibilities include coordinating monthly equipment calibration by gathering items, documenting submissions and returns, and arranging pickup and return to Anthony Trail when not handled by TruCal. The role involves retrieving and returning samples from the sample cage, breaking down test setups by removing thermocouples and repacking samples into original packaging, and assisting with large‑scale testing such as load and laundry testing. Additional duties include material preparation (cutting and stripping wire, building boxes), supporting testing activities, and participating in basic 5S practices to maintain organized shared spaces such as the IP rain room and tower.

Responsibilities

• Builds and/or adapts unique setup and test equipment for complex tests using independent judgment.
• Applies working knowledge of applicable test requirements and performs tests using general laboratory equipment.
• Performs routine care of designated test equipment and work area.
• Operates a computer to extract/input readily available information and to use available software. 
• Examines test samples, reads measuring instruments and reviews test data with supervisor.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and operational instructions.
• Determines need for and seeks consultation from engineers or laboratory technicians.
• Analyzes test results.
• Operates designated laboratory equipment and tools as directed.
• Receives instructions from and reports data to supervisor and personnel in engineering and laboratory operations as needed.
• Prepares data sheets and records observed or calculated test results.
• Assembles test data for appropriate distribution. 
• Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
• Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
• Performs other duties as directed.

Qualifications

• Higher Secondary Education plus one to two years related experience preferred. 
• Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
• Demonstrated ability to be innovative and creative.
• Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must.
• Ability to incorporate computer skills into day-to-day testing.

Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $45,000 and $60,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
